| Diesel Motor using a Gear Box | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Right angle drive gearboxes are designed to bolt onto a discharge head and the std drive is a direct drive diesel motor. This type of drive unit allows easy adjusting of the top shaft which will adjust the setting height of the impellors in the pump. This type of gearbox is water cooled the advantage is that this makes it amazing quiet compared to fan cooled gearbox’s. These gearboxes have been around for many years and have built a strong reputation on their ruggedness and reliable operation |

| Electric motor using belt drive | |
![]() |
Using belts was very common in the old days but not often seen these days but they are still available if required. |
| Combination Gearbox and Electric motor | |

When emergency or 24hr supply of fluid is required a alternate power for driving the vertical pump is needed. This can be accomplished by installing a Right Angle Gear Drive connected to the horizontal power source, such as an internal combustion engine or a steam turbine and providing a stand over the gear drive for mounting the vertical power source, which is always a vertical electric motor. The vertical electric motor is the primary source of power for the pump. If there is an electric power failure or failure of the motor, the Right Angle Gear Drive and stand-by power source are brought into service by engaging the manual sliding clutch. |

Diesel motors are often used when the cost of electric connection totally out ways the extra cost of purchasing diesel or there is no power grid available. Always check to make sure that the power curve of the motor you are going to use does not go under the pump power curve at any point. |
